The LABOR SHAKES

How YOU Can Soothe Your Body After Birth

What are "the “LABOR SHAKES” and how do I naturally manage these after birth?

Labor shakes, also known as "labor tremors" or "birth shakes," are involuntary shivers or trembling that can occur during labor and delivery. These shakes can range from mild to intense and can affect any part of the body, although they often involve the legs and arms. Labor shakes are usually harmless and temporary, typically subsiding shortly after birth.

Why Do Labor Shakes Occur?

Several factors can contribute to the onset of labor shakes:

  1. Hormonal Changes: Labor involves a rapid shift in hormone levels, including the release of adrenaline, oxytocin, and other stress hormones. These hormonal changes can trigger involuntary shaking.

  2. Physical Exertion: Labor is physically demanding, and the body's response to intense effort can manifest as shaking. This is similar to how muscles may tremble after intense exercise.

  3. Pain and Stress: The physical pain and emotional stress of labor can cause the body to react with shaking. The anticipation and fear of childbirth can also play a role.

  4. Temperature Fluctuations: Changes in body temperature, including chills and sweats, are common during labor and can contribute to shaking.

  5. Epidural and Medications: Some people believe that certain medications can disrupt the nervous system and cause adverse reactions, such as intense shaking.
