Understanding How Baby Moves During Labor

Our society is hyperfocused on cervical dilation as the critical measurement for labor progression during childbirth, however, there is a bigger picture to understanding the biomechanics of birth.

While the mother’s body is doing a lot of work to help the baby move downward during labor, your BABY is doing just as much work as you are.

Babies need to rotate and wiggle through the pelvic levels during childbirth. As they move down, they engage in each pelvic level. Your provider will use this engagement to assign your baby a fetal station number. This number helps them understand where the baby is located, in relation to the major landmarks of your anatomy and how the labor is progressing.

Sometimes, during labor, your baby can get “stuck” or have trouble squeezing through that particular level. This can be attributed to several things including your baby’s fetal position inside your body, the tightness or tension of your body’s muscles and soft tissues, your ability to move during labor, and more.

My Fetal Stations Guide helps you understand how to maximize the most space in the pelvic levels to help your baby move through them more easily. Subscribe to access the free download.
